Catamount Arts welcomes children ages 8 and up (and their caregivers) to two fiber arts workshops. Felting Fun will take place Saturday, October 17th, from 9am to noon. Knotty Knots is scheduled for Saturday, October 24th, also from 9am to noon. Sign up for one or both!

Wet felting and macramé intertwine in these workshops to create a harmonious match between two contrasting textures: the clean geometric lines of the macramé knots and the soft organic form of the wool. Parents and caregivers are welcome to join their children, but no adult will be permitted without an accompanying child.

In Felting Fun, on October 17th, young fiber artists are invited to explore the magic of wet felting wool beads as they transition through three distinct phases: the loose phase (fluffy and fragile), the medium phase (squishy but holding shape) and the hard phase (dense, rock-like, and durable). Using wool, water, and soap, participants will mold round balls to create one-of-a-kind beads to use in macramé projects the following week.

In Knotty Knots, on October 24th, students will learn foundational knots for macramé and transform them into decorative and functional fiber pieces, such as bracelets, key chains, and plant hangers. This is where the beads made in Felting Fun come into play, but extra beads will be available for participants who were unable to attend the previous workshop. Unique felted beads will turn participants’ macramé pieces into multimedia masterpieces!

The fee for Felting Fun and Knotty Knots is $25 per student per workshop, with a 10% discount for Catamount Arts members. Catamount Arts is committed to offering high quality arts experiences for all students, regardless of ability to pay. For financial assistance, please contact Anne Campbell at 802-748-2600 extension 109 to learn about scholarship availability.
