EPIC Music Program Manager

EPIC Music, which started in 2017, is an intensive afterschool program for ensemble string instruction (violin, viola, cello, bass) for students aged 8-18. Inspired by the global El Sistema movement which started in Venezuela in 1975, the program emphasizes community, access, and inclusivity. The program meets after school (approximately 2:30-5:15pm) Monday through Thursday from September through May, and for a week in June (mornings, 3 hours/day). Mondays and Wednesdays are at St. Johnsbury School; Tuesdays and Thursday are at Union Baptist Church in Waterford. 

The Program Manager works approximately 12-16 hours per week, reports to the Education Director and works closely with contracted teaching artists and volunteers. Duties include:

  • communicating with staff,  students, families, and venues
  • maintaining an instrument inventory, ensuring instrument repairs are made, assigning instruments to students
  • copying and organizing music
  • making sure recordings are archived on the Catamount Arts website
  • keeping attendance and making reports as necessary
  • setting up and breaking down rehearsal space
  • assisting instructors as needed
  • managing volunteers
  • Assisting Education Director with data collection

Requirements:

  • College experience, bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Organization and computer skills; social media a plus
  • Experience working with children
  • Experience reading music and playing an instrument, or a willingness to learn to play violin
  • Reliable transportation

This is a staff position, with an hourly rate of $17-20. 

The selected candidate must complete a background check and fingerprinting with St. Johnsbury School District, and complete ChildSafe training through Union Baptist Church.

Box Office Employee & Film Projectionist

Catamount Arts is seeking a friendly, dependable Box Office Employee & Film Projectionist to join our team at the Catamount Arts Center in St. Johnsbury.

This is a public-facing position that combines customer service, ticketing, general Arts Center operations, and film projection. The ideal candidate enjoys working with people, is comfortable with technology, and can work independently while helping create a welcoming experience for everyone who visits Catamount Arts.

Approximately 36 hours per week | Starting at $17/hour
Some evening and weekend hours are required.

Responsibilities

Box Office & Customer Service
  • Welcome visitors to the Arts Center and provide information about Catamount Arts, including exhibitions, classes, films, performances, and other events.
  • Sell tickets in person and over the phone using our Spektrix ticketing system.
  • Assist customers who are having difficulty purchasing tickets online.
  • Process daily Will Call and postal ticket reports and prepare tickets for mailing.
  • Learn to register participants for classes and workshops using CourseStorm.
  • Answer incoming phone calls and assist customers with questions about Catamount Arts programs and activities.
  • Serve as a liaison between the public, Catamount Arts staff, and other organizations using the Arts Center.
  • Help ensure that the galleries, Box Office, Fireplace Room, restrooms, and theaters are clean, neat, and ready to welcome guests.
Film Projection & Theater Operations
  • Learn to operate Catamount Arts’ projection equipment and show films in a variety of formats.
  • Prepare the theater for screenings and simple presentations, including basic HDMI and sound-system setup.
  • Monitor screenings and respond to technical issues when needed.
  • Sell concessions and keep concession supplies stocked.
  • Maintain the concession area, including cleaning the popcorn machine.

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for someone who is:

  • Friendly, welcoming, and comfortable working with the public.
  • Able to make decisions and remain calm when unexpected situations arise.
  • Comfortable with computers and willing to learn new systems, including Spektrix and CourseStorm.
  • Comfortable answering phones and assisting customers both in person and remotely.
  • Able to work independently for several hours at a time and take initiative when tasks need to be completed.
  • Dependable and attentive to detail.
  • Comfortable communicating with coworkers and other staff through Slack and email.
  • Available to work some evenings and weekends.

Previous box office, customer service, or projection experience is helpful but not required. Training will be provided.

Starting pay: $17/hour
Schedule: Approximately 36 hours per week, including some evenings and weekends.

Teaching Artists

Catamount Arts seeks teaching artists for year-round creative enrichment programs for all ages. The goal of our education programs is to deliver high-quality creative experiences to youth and adults in St. Johnsbury and surrounding towns.

Teaching positions include the following, and may be in any discipline/media:

  • Afterschool activity leaders for elementary/middle school students (programming taking place in local schools)
  • Instructors for homeschool classes at the Catamount Arts Center
  • School vacation and summer camp instructors for elementary/middle school students (on site at our Arts Center and in local schools)
  • Artists-in-residence at local preschool centers
  • Instructors of classes and workshops for adults and high school students
  • Experienced strings teachers (violin, viola, cello) for our intensive EPIC Music program
  • Workshop leaders for our teen Open Mic program
  • Instructors for community programs in spaces such as farmers’ markets, festival sites, and more
