Education Assistant

Part-time, 20 hours per week, with potential for growth

The Education Assistant supports the Catamount Arts education department in three main areas:

  • EPIC Music management: Oversee daily operations of an afterschool strings program for ages 8 and up. The program meets Monday through Thursday, September through May, approximately 2:30–5:15 pm. Learn more about EPIC Music.
  • Open Stage management: Guide high school student staffers in planning and presenting arts programming on Friday evenings, 6:00–10:00 pm. Learn more about Open Stage.
  • Marketing and social media: Develop marketing materials and social media posts for education programs for all ages.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate with students, staff, families, venues, and community partners.
  • Schedule student workers and submit their timesheets.
  • Maintain registration spreadsheets and instrument inventories.
  • Set up and break down spaces and ensure they are clean.
  • Assist instructors as needed and manage volunteers.
  • Assist with documentation, data collection, evaluation, and grant reporting.
  • Create marketing materials.
  • Develop and post social media content.

Requirements

  • College experience; bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Organization and computer skills, and social media experience.
  • Experience working with children and teens.
  • Reliable transportation.

The selected candidate must complete a background check and fingerprinting, as well as a short online child safety training course.

Teaching Artists

Catamount Arts seeks teaching artists for year-round creative enrichment programs for all ages. The goal of our education programs is to deliver high-quality creative experiences to youth and adults in St. Johnsbury and surrounding towns.

Teaching positions include the following, and may be in any discipline/media:

  • Afterschool activity leaders for elementary/middle school students (programming taking place in local schools)
  • Instructors for homeschool classes at the Catamount Arts Center
  • School vacation and summer camp instructors for elementary/middle school students (on site at our Arts Center and in local schools)
  • Artists-in-residence at local preschool centers
  • Instructors of classes and workshops for adults and high school students
  • Experienced strings teachers (violin, viola, cello) for our intensive EPIC Music program
  • Workshop leaders for our teen Open Mic program
  • Instructors for community programs in spaces such as farmers’ markets, festival sites, and more
