StJ Art on the Street is a public art collaboration among the Window Warriors volunteers of St. Johnsbury Chamber of Commerce, Northeast Kingdom Artisans Guild, Catamount Arts, the Town of St. Johnsbury, 142 Eastern, Northern Counties Healthcare, and Northern Express Care. StJ Art on the Street has support from the Vermont Arts Council, the Vermont Curators Group, and Maple Groves Farm of Vermont.

Elly Barksdale, Martin McGowan

Featuring new public art surrounding the newly renovated building! Elly Barksdale’s new mural featuring collaboration with Lyndon Institute art students, and a metal sculpture by local sculptor and artistic welder Martin McGowan. Also visit Tunnel Books after checking out the artwork outside. Tunnel Books is open 12–7pm.

The Window of Northern Express Care (Location 2)

Stephen Huneck

Northern Express Care is featuring a display of woodcut prints from beloved local artist Stephen Huneck. In the front window of the clinic, see the iconic Sally the dog, who was the subject of a number of children’s books written and illustrated by Huneck.

Cary & Main Co. Mural (Location 3)

This colorful mural was completed in October of 2023 by Cuban artist Ángel Ramírez, in collaboration with artists Hanoi Pérez and Yuniell Pérez.

Northeast Kingdom Artisans Guild (Location 4)

Sachiko Yoshida

The Artisans Guild is a cooperative Craft and Fine Art Gallery featuring the brilliant work of Vermont Artists and a few Friends from New Hampshire. The Guild presents in the Backroom Gallery original watercolor paintings by Sachiko Yoshida. Artist reception on Saturday from 2–4pm, and the Guild will be offering a 15% off storewide sale! The Guild is open Saturday, 10:30am–5:30pm.

Mary’s iconic woodblock prints have been photographed and displayed in large form by Harrison Creative. Check out original block prints and cards at the Northeast Kingdom Artisans Guild down the street!

Nico Lima

Nico is an educator, teaching art to elementary school students in Northeastern Vermont, and is Vermont College of Fine Arts alumni. Nico is a painter and printmaker, and has begun exploring sculpture using paper mache, collage, and reimagined materials and objects.

Art & Joy (Location 7)

Hail Mary and Gail Flynn

Art & Joy sells unique gifts that celebrate innovative designers, diverse artists, and local makers. This month, the shop is featuring mixed media original work by Gail Flynn. Gail is a mixed media artist and painter, often incorporating collage into her work. She works in both Vermont and Boston. Open Saturday and Sunday 10am–5pm.

Ysbrydoliaeth (Location 8)

Rachel Yoder

Ysbrydoliaeth (pronounced uh-sprid-OH-ly-eye-th) is a curiosity shop specializing in artisan wares from around the world. They are delighted to feature Pennsylvania German Designs by Rachel Yoder, including Pennsylvania German redware. Rachel is retiring from ceramics, so this display may be her final work. Open Saturday 10am–6pm, and Sunday 10am–5pm.

Featuring Artist Staff at Vermont Studio Center

The exhibition features work by artist-staff members of the Vermont Studio Center, each of whom balances their creative practice with the day-to-day work of supporting a vibrant residency community. These dual roles bring a unique intimacy and rhythm to their studio lives, where artmaking and creative placemaking coalesce. Open Saturday 11am–8pm, and Sunday noon–3pm.

Catamount Arts Open Stage Mural

Created by Elly Barksdale with the support and inspiration from the Open Stage program student leadership, check out the mural on the retaining wall on the side of the Catamount Arts parking lot! The design pays homage and draws inspiration from artist Keith Haring.

The front window of 142 Eastern features original paintings by Krista Lee Tunstall of Big Mood Art. With a professional background in the spa and wellness industry, Krista approaches art as an energetic practice — channeling mood, intuition, and emotion into every piece.

Magic Wolf (Location 11)

Tucked into a former intaglio printmaker’s studio, Magic Wolf carries on the printmaking legacy through custom screen printing. View a variety of original designs printed on archival paper and quality fabrics. Walk up Eastern Avenue to find out more! The print shop will be open 11am–5pm.

Alice Kitchel

Alice began her artistic career primarily as a weaver and fiber artist, and returned to painting 30 years ago. Alice creates colorful paintings featuring local landscapes inspired by her childhood. She is also an art and mental health therapist, and life coach. Meet the artist 10am–1pm.

Clay Mohrman

Created through an Animating Infrastructure grant from the Vermont Arts Council, “Light Shift” illuminates the Honking Tunnel area, as well as captures a physical rendering of the Doppler Effect, paying homage to the tradition of sounding a vehicle horn when about to drive through the tunnel. The sculpture illuminates at dusk.
