Description:
“The Phoenician Scheme” is a darkly comedic espionage caper directed, written, and co-produced by Wes Anderson, with a story by Anderson and Roman Coppola. In a fictional 1950s Middle Eastern realm, art collector‑tycoon Zsa‑Zsa Korda (Benicio del Toro) declares his estranged daughter Liesl (Mia Threapleton), a nun, his heir amidst a world of wealthy rivals, foreign terrorists, and hidden assassins. As they travel across ornate locales, joined by an eccentric Norwegian tutor Bjorn (Michael Cera) and a star‑packed supporting cast led by Tom Hanks, Bryan Cranston, Riz Ahmed, Scarlett Johansson, and Benedict Cumberbatch, Zsa‑Zsa dodges plane explosions, bombs, grenades, and even visions of divine reckoning.

Blending Anderson’s signature visual symmetry, handcrafted whimsy, and dry wit with bold action and political undertones, this film marks a stylistic evolution—clashing Baroque aesthetics with genuine emotional stakes and ethical questions about legacy and redemption. Critical response has been strong, with praise for its humor, visual flair, and moral resonance.
