June 17 - June 20, 2025

Presented By: Catamount Arts

Tuesday-Friday, June 17-20, 12:30-3:30pm

Location:
Catamount Arts Center
115 Eastern Avenue
St. Johnsbury, VT

Hosted by teaching artist Margaret Wiseheart

This four day workshop series offers an opportunity for all levels and ages (16+) of artists to learn by practicing from direct observation, and will include floral arrangements, still lifes, the figure, and a final session to bring it all together in a 3 hour open studio. Sessions will include assistance, support, and suggestions for creating vibrant and masterful alla prima studies that can then be composed into one unique and original artwork.

Please register via our new Class Portal.

Tuesday – Floral Arrangements

We’ll have a table with several fresh flower arrangements and drapery. Begin with drawing and/or painting one or all of the set-ups in your choice of media.

Registration deadline: June 16

Wednesday – Still Life Set-ups

There will be a table with fruit, glassware, and various containers and other objects. Observe and record light effects on shapes and form in your choice of media.

Registration deadline: June 17

Thursday – Figurative Study

A live model will pose – several short poses and one longer pose, so that all artists can have multiple attempts at capturing the form from a variety of angles, in any medium.

Registration deadline: June 18

Friday – Open Studio

Artists will bring their work and materials to continue artwork development in the studio setting with critique and suggestions.

Registration deadline: June 19

Fees: $30/session (10% discount for Catamount Arts members and high school students). Space is limited to 10 students each day, so advance registration is highly encouraged. Registration ends 24 hours before each session. If there is room, we will accept drop-ins – $35 at the door.

Materials: Students are welcome to bring whatever materials they would like to use: paints, drawing materials. A list of suggested materials will be provided to all who register. We will provide easels, and will have some materials available if someone forgets something. If an artist does not have materials to bring, there will be an extra charge of $10 for drawing supplies and $15 for painting supplies.
