“The Ballad of Wallis Island” is a 2025 British comedy that follows Charles (Tim Key), an eccentric lottery winner living alone on a remote island. Charles dreams of reuniting his favorite folk duo, McGwyer & Mortimer, and invites them to perform a private concert at his home. The musicians, Herb McGwyer (Tom Basden) and Nell Mortimer (Carey Mulligan), who are also former lovers, accept the invitation, leading to a reunion filled with old tensions and unexpected revelations. As the trio navigates the complexities of their past relationships, the film explores themes of nostalgia, healing, and the power of music.
