Description:
“The Wedding Banquet” is a 2025 romantic comedy directed by Andrew Ahn, reimagining Ang Lee’s 1993 classic for a contemporary audience. Set in Seattle’s Asian-American LGBTQ+ community, the film follows Min (Han Gi-chan), a Korean artist facing visa issues, and his boyfriend Chris (Bowen Yang). To secure Min’s residency and fund IVF treatments for their friends Angela (Kelly Marie Tran) and Lee (Lily Gladstone), Min enters a green-card marriage with Angela. Complications arise when Min’s traditional grandmother, Ja-Young (Youn Yuh-jung), arrives unexpectedly, prompting the group to stage a grand Korean wedding banquet. The film explores themes of chosen family, cultural expectations, and identity with humor and heart.
