Cantos y Flores : Karina Carsolio is joined by her friend and running partner, Hillary Gerardi, on a trip to Bolivia to finish a project she started with her brother, Tom, before he passed away 7 years ago. Cantos y Flores explores grief, performance, spirituality and friendship.

Hillary Gerardi grew up in Saint Johnsbury and graduated from Saint Johnsbury Academy in 2004. She didn’t intend to become a runner, but fell in love with moving quickly in the mountains while working at the AMC huts in the White Mountains during summers off from Middlebury College. She first tried her hand at trail running in the Adirondacks with some success, but she was more focused on skiing and mountaineering, and set off for France with her partner, Brad Carlson, of Hinesburg in 2011.
Since landing in France, she has done a Master’s degree, taught at the American School of Grenoble, and the Research Center for Alpine Ecosystems, and become a professional mountain runner. She has topped the podium at trail events around the world, and in 2025 became the French National Trail Running Champion, and finished 10th at the World Trail Championships. A specialist in “Skyrunning”, she loves to combine speed and endurance with high mountain sports, and holds the speed record on Europe’s highest peak, Mont Blanc (15,770 ft), as well as several 20,000 ft peaks in Bolivia. When she is not running, scrambling or planning adventures, she is seeking ways to combine her passion for mountain sports with action on environmental issues.
