Aretha Franklin’s legendary career spanned several generations and a multitude of genres. “The Queen of Soul” grew up in the Baptist congregations of Detroit, where she first developed her talent for expressive and powerful vocals that propelled her to international stardom. Beloved by musicians and listeners alike, Aretha is recognized as the most successful female recording artist in history with 112 charted singles on Billboard, 18 Grammy Awards, and more than 75 million records sold.

Musician, vocalist, and composer Damien Sneed toured with Aretha during her later years, developing a strong relationship with the soul legend. In this special tribute, Sneed pays homage to the monarch herself with fresh renditions of her most cherished hits including Respect, Knew You Were Waiting, Bridge Over Troubled Water, Precious Memories, Think, Until You Come Back To Me, Daydreaming, Freeway, Natural Woman, and others. Backed by a stellar cast of jazz, gospel, and soul musicians and vocalists, Damien Sneed’s multi-media tribute offers a tender and spiritual reflection upon the life of an iconic music titan.

Four-time Grammy Award-winner Karen Clark Sheard will sing Franklin’s iconic songs, showing a deep reverence to Franklin’s talent while endowing them with her own power. A gospel music legend, Sheard is renowned for her signature, one-of-a-kind multi-octave vocal range and ability. Her musical style, as a solo artist and with the acclaimed Clark Sisters, has inspired today’s brightest pop divas, among them Beyoncé, Mariah Carey, Missy Elliott, and Faith Evans. Like Sneed, Clark also collaborated and performed with Aretha Franklin, who became her cherished mentor.

“A soprano of great range in pitch and tone, from elegant to guttural, Karen Clark Sheard brings depth and flexibility, with constant invention, singing about destiny and power, sometimes sliding into testifying…there are extended sequences, not just moments when a listener can start to worry: Do I deserve such riches?” — Ben Ratliff, New York Times
