Learn to make your own book using the crossed structure bookbinding technique. Participants will create cover papers with splash painting, then learn the interesting and fun process of crossed structure binding, invented by the accomplished Mexican bookbinder, Carmencho Arragui. This binding is designed to weave together without glue. The sewing shows on the outside of the book, adding a distinctive design element.
Class fee: $65 (10% discount for Catamount Arts members and high school students), plus an $8 materials fee payable to the instructor
Parents/guardians of students under age 18 must complete an enrollment form HERE.
Sharon Kenney Biddle has been teaching bookbinding for more than twenty years. She believes that old-fashioned paper-filled books, especially ones that we make ourselves, are not obsolete or irrelevant. Designing a book and building its contents are worthy, satisfying experiences. A book that is entirely one's own from cover to cover is a splendid example of imagination and careful craftsmanship.
