Teen Open Mic
Each Friday evening, local teens gather to play music, socialize and invigorate the local arts scene. The weekly Teen Open Mic is sponsored by the Strategic Prevention Framework State Incentive program and is coordinated by Tinalyn Caisse and Justin Larocque.

In this two session workshop, children will complete a wall hanging and perhaps a few other small projects using a needle felting method. There will be exploration in theme, composition, texture and color in this lively class. The possibility for creativity is endless with the array of color choices and simplicity of technique. Participants will leave excited and happy with their finished projects.

Constitution Brass Quintet

This season’s program series will kick-off with one of Vermont’s most entertaining musical ensembles. Since 1983, the Constitution Brass Quintet has been performing for schools all over New England.

Their extensive repertoire spans over four centuries of music composition, from the 16th century to the present, literally “Renaissance to ragtime and beyond.” Students will be presented with a wide range of musical periods and styles. The concert will also feature historical and musical commentary, humorous anecdotes, and members of the quintet performing in the midst of the audience. Even the youngest students will find the music and instruments new and exciting, while the older students will be inspired to try music lessons for themselves after listening to these amazing role models for the performing arts.

National Marionette Theatre

The National Marionette Theatre is one of the oldest continually running marionette theaters in the United States. This award-wining troupe has been entertaining audiences around the world for over forty years. Noted for its amazing manipulation technique and imaginative fully staged productions, the National Marionette Theatre was the first American company to receive the prestigious UNIMA award for excellence in puppetry.

The “Sleeping Beauty” princess Aurora has been asleep for almost 100 years when Prince Steffon learns of her sad story. He resolves to find the sleeping princess and rescue her from the evil fairy Belladonna. Told from the prince’s point of view, this production combines beautifully crafted marionettes with the timeless music from Tchaikovsky’s ballet.

Street Beat

Inspired by the success of “Stomp,” Street Beat presents a show that is a kinetic, maximum energy explosion of urban rhythm and dance, utilizing junk, household items and found objects for drums and percussion and featuring the pinnacle of modern “street” choreography.

This dynamic duo, who comes from Los Angeles, California, and will be making their first appearance ever in Vermont, will teach, uplift and inspire students of all backgrounds to incorporate music playing into their daily lives. The pair of gifted performers integrate drumming as a creative learning tool that addresses life skills and enhances the mind, body and spirit. Student participation will be an integral part of all aspects of this unique performance. Students will rave about this show for months to come.

35th Parallel

Described by Showcase Magazine as “One of New England’s most innovative ensembles,” 35th Parallel will take students on a memorable one-hour music festival around the globe. Multi-instrumentalists Mac Ritchey and Gabe Halberg weave a sonic spell, winding a musical trail through the Middle East, North India, North Africa and the Mediterranean.

Students of all grade levels will be fascinated by the group’s unusual sound, blending a host of globally diverse instruments with the subtle use of modern electronics. 35th Parallel performs new renditions of traditional pieces as well as their own compositions. They will discuss with students the diversity of musical instruments and their varied cultural influences. This program will enhance your students’ multicultural curriculum and provide a springboard for discussion.
