Teen Filmmakers Showcase - School For Cinema and the Performing Arts (SOCAPA) Representative

During Catamount’s inaugural Teen Filmmakers Showcase, several representatives of the sponsoring School of Cinema and Performing Arts (SOCAPA) will be on hand throughout the weekend to discuss film making techniques and to introduce the attending teen film makers. It is expected that a variety of teen film makers from Vermont, Massachusetts, New York and other states will be on hand to discuss their individual films with the audience. SOCAPA will also host the Teen Filmmakers Showcase Award Ceremony and reception at 9:00 pm Saturday, April 10.
Where The Rivers Flow North - Discussion w/Jay Craven

Jay Craven is a film director and founder of Kingdom County Productions, the Northeast Kingdom’s premier filmmaking company. Three of Jay’s films, Where The Rivers Flow North, Stranger in the Kingdom and Disappearances, are featured in this year’s film festival. In addition to directing, Jay also teaches film at Marlboro College. Kingdom County Productions also presents a series of live cultural events throughout the year in association with Catamount Arts.
Silents Are Golden - Discussion w/Rob Mermin

Rob Mermin is former Dean of Clown Collegefor Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus, President of the all-youth Blackfriars Summer Theater, and Artist-in-Residence for the Vermont Arts Council, creating Vermont's "Circus Residency" program for the state's public schools. In 1987 Rob founded the award-winning international touring company Circus Smirkus. Having cultural exchanges with 24 countries, Smirkus was named the "United Nations of the Youth Circus World." Rob has toured a one-man show, founded a children's theater company, toured Canada with the Paul Gaulin Mime troupe, worked in TV and film in Scandinavia, including two seasons as a television actor on Denmark's popular weekly show "TV I Teltet", and toured Europe with Sandglass Puppet Theater. Rob has volunteered time teaching and performing magic, mime, and circus in children's hospitals, nursing homes, and orphanages in 10 countries.
The Summer of Walter Hacks - Discussion w/ George Woodard & Gerianne Smart

Director and Co-writer George Woodard is no stranger to stage or screen. He is well known as the “dairy farmer from Vermont” who enjoys acting and performing. The Summer of Walter Hacks takes his thirty years of farm and theatrical/film experience and merges t hem in this highly original film. George spent several years in Los Angeles honing his acting skills on stage and film until he was called home to look after his family’s farm. While farming, he made time to start up Woodchuck Theatre Company which created numerous productions in northern and central Vermont. Pasture Productions, which made The Summer of Walter Hacks, is the independent film offshoot of WTC.
Producer and co-writer Gerianne Smart is a full-time marketing, promotion and advertising professional who runs her company, Smart Communication, out of Ferrisburgh, Vermont. Gerianne is a graduate of the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and, while in NYC, performed in many productions off-off Broadway as well as bit parts in industrials and print. She moved to Vermont in 1991 and has been involved in the restoration of the Vergennes Opera House among other projects.

Shout It Out! - Discussion w/ Bess O’Brien

Bess O’Brien is a filmmaker and producer who founded Kingdom County Productions in 1991 with fellow director Jay Craven. Bess is also the creator of Fledgling Films and has toured Vermont with her production of The Voices Project, which won the prestigious 2005 Vermont Community Award from the Vermont Agency on Human Services. Shout It Out! Is the film representation of The Voices Project and features more than 50 Vermont teens who toured with the stage presentation.
La Danse - Discussion w/ Marianne Handy Hrabi

Marianne Handy Hrabi is a former professional dancer with the Paul Taylor Dance Company and currently teaches dance at Dartmouth College and St. Johnsbury Academy. She is a native of St. Johnsbury who is knowledgeable of the lifestyle of a professional dancer and of the demanding techniques chronicled in the film La Danse. She has personally been involved in a discussion with director Robert Wiseman about the film. Marianne was also instrumental in helping Catamount and St. Johnsbury Academy bring the Martha Graham Dance Company to the Northeast Kingdom last year.
Stranger in the Kingdom - Discussion w/ Don Bredes

Don Bredes earned an MFA in Fiction from the University of California at Irvine and an AB in English Composition from Syracuse University. He has been a Wallace Stegner Fellow in fiction at Stanford University, and he has been awarded fellowships for his fiction by the Vermont Council on the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts. Two of his screenplay adaptations, A Stranger in the Kingdom and Where the Rivers Flow North have been produced by Kingdom County Productions. He is the author of several novels, including Muldoon, Cold Comfort and The Fifth Season. His latest novel The Errand Boy is currently available in bookstores nationwide.
