Catamount Arts in St. Johnsbury is seeking a VISTA (Volunteer in Service to America) for one year of service. Catamount Arts was founded in 1975 with a mission of enhancing the cultural climate of northern Vermont and New Hampshire (one of the poorest areas in country). Integration of the arts into community life has been our guiding principle and we attempt to cultivate awareness and appreciation of the arts through a diversified schedule of film, music, theater, dance, and the visual arts. Serving as the Regional Arts Organization for the area, Catamount partners with many outstanding arts organizations to bring world class performances throughout the region, open eyes to different cultures, boost the local economy and serve as the heart-beat of our community. The VISTA will assess needs of the local Head Start (HS) program and develop a comprehensive arts program which addresses those needs. The VISTA will create or refine a developmental arts education curricula, including assessment metrics that meets State and national educational standards. He or she will also coordinate efforts with K-8 arts education programs and local public schools’ curricula to ensure seamless transition of pre-school students. The VISTA will develop strategies for including parents in class activities and train them in age-appropriate at-home arts projects. The VISTA will perform outreach to engage other HS programs in the region that primarily serve low-income pre-schoolers. The successful candidate will be a college graduate with experience and training in early childhood education, and skills in one or more of the visual or performing arts.

The full-time position offers an annual living allowance of $11,352, plus health coverage, childcare assistance if eligible, a relocation allowance,  training,  and a choice of education award or end of service stipend .
